Smack Lobster, London

This restaurant opened in November 2014 by the same creators who brought us Burger and Lobster. It is located behind Oxford Street, London.

Basically, similar to its establish predecessor, #burgerandlobster, the menu is simple – lobster roll or whole lobster with lobster chowder or courgette fries as a side. You get the option to either dine in or take away but note there is a slight price. Worry not about seating as there is a huge basement area for diners.

WHAT WE ORDERED
The two of us ordered the Californian Lobster Roll and Seven Samurai Lobster Roll with a portion of Courgette Fries to share, a side of Lobster Chowder and a soft drink each which all came to £36.20.

Right: Seven Samurai Lobster Roll – japanese mayo, japanese cabbage, cucumber, pickled ginger, spring onions, togarashi spice

THOUGHTS
Food – The rolls were fantastic – the toasted brioche buns gave the rolls a great texture (crispy on the outside and still soft in the centre). There was’t a great deal of lobster in my roll but what do you expect when you are only paying £9 for it.

I opted for the Seven Samurai Lobster Roll and they chefs did a great job complimenting the Japanese flavours with the lobster and giving this dish a truly Japanese flavour. But one thing I would say, the pickled ginger is quite strong so if you’re not keen either ask for no pickled ginger or simply go for one of the other choices.

The California Lobster Roll has a great mix of salad. I think this one is definitely the winning lobster roll but it would be even better if they put actually bits of avocado into the roll as the avocado is a bit lost in the mayo which I think is a bit of shame you can’t really taste it as it is the one ingredient that I think really draws people towards California. Other than that, it is a fantastic lobster roll and the flavours blend well today.

I can’t wait to go back and try the other rolls and whole lobster.

The Lobster Chowder is flavoursome and makes a great winter warmer. There are big chunks of lobster in there too which is a nice surprise given I only paid £4.8 for it.

The courgette fries were absolutely divine – totally the winner here. They were tasty but not greasy. They are the best I have ever had but they were a tad on the pricey side.

Drinks – there is a simple yet comprehensive menu with alcoholic/non-alcoholic options at very reasonable prices. They even offer water (still and sparkling options) for free and on tap for you to help yourself!

VERDICT
A must try. A pretty relaxed restaurant with a fast dining concept without feeling like a fast food joint serving up quality food and drinks.

Now – GO GO GO!!
