Scarpetta, London

Did I hear someone say Artisan Pasta for lunch at an affordable price?!

It was 10am and I looked out of my window from my office and saw a blue sky so I decided to take a lunchtime stroll to top up my vitamin D (wishful thinking as I had gloves, scarf and a big winter coat on).

I saw Scarpetta as I walked back up Cannon Street after a cheeky visit down to Paul’s bakery for their strawberry tart (that tart deserves a post all to itself). Sorry back to Scarpetta, I’ve seen my colleagues frequent this place on numerous lunchtimes but had yet to pop my Scarpetta cherry so I decided today them a visit.

This places prides itself on serving artisan pasta handmade by Italians which is moustache licking good.

As you walk in there is an intimidate area for diners to sit in and enjoy their artisan pasta. I strolled up to the counter and was completely lost as to what I had to do. The girl behind the till kindly explained that I had to chose a pasta and a sauce and they will cook it straight away for me. Finally I will pay once I have received my order. Sounded simple enough and sure it was.

You first chose the size – medium £4.50 or large for £6.90. I ordered the medium mushroom and truffles pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly, there is always a risk when opting for take out pasta that either the pasta is over cooked or its so undercooked you can still taste the flour (sorry Coco Di Mama). Scarpetta really took me by surprise because not only was the pasta made perfect, the sauce was really flavoursome and they were generous with the sauce so my pasta didn’t have to fight each other to be covered in sauce.

If anyone works near Cannon Street and are stumped for some comfort food at lunch then I would highly recommend this place. But be warned, like most things popular in the city, there’s most likely a queue at the peak of lunchtime but it does down fairly quickly!

They have now open outlets in Canary Wharf and the City too.

Happy lunchtime!

Enjoy!
