Coca Cola Chicken Wings

Coca Cola chicken wings were all the rage when I was young – super delicious and really easy to make.

Don’t worry if your Coca Cola is flat – you can use it with this recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 500g chicken wings (split into flats and drumsticks)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp shaosing cooking wine (available in Tesco or any Chinese supermarket)
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (sliced)
  • 5 thin slices of ginger
  • 1 can of coca cola (original – DO NOT USE any diet variation as you need the sugar from the coca cola to form the glaze)
  • 1 tbsp oil

METHOD:

1. Place the chicken wings in a large bowl. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce, shaosing cooking wine and white pepper and mix thoroughly. Cover and set to one side to marinade for 1 hour.

2. Add a tbsp of oil in a frying pan. Once the oil is hot add ginger, garlic and chicken wings. Brown the chicken wing (don’t cook thoroughly at this stage to avoid overcooked chicken wings).

3. Pour in the remaining liquid from the marinade into the pan then add dark soy sauce and Coca Cola.

4. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a medium heat to reduce the mixture to a sticky glaze. Stir to ensure the chicken wings are coats in the sticky glaze.

Gobbytraveller’s Tip: I serve mine with boiled rice but they are equally as good with fries or even as finger food!

Enjoy!
